The internal glass tube is connected with environment friendly and highly absorbing material to heat up the water contained in the glass tube. The heated water becomes less dense than the storage tank and starts rising through the tube due to thermosyphon effect eventually reaching the tank.Simultaneously cold water from the tank descends to the tube and gets heated up in the absorber and raises back to the hot water tank and the cycle repeats. | | | SOLAR FOOT LIGHT: | | Foot light in the bedrooms are required to be kept ON round the clock in all the 4 Bed rooms of Running Room.Foot light of 4 watt powered LED is the only source of illumination in the Bed Rooms for movement of occupants. The TATA BP make home light system is the Solar energy which converted into Electrical Energy through Solar photo voltaic system. There is total saving of energy consumption by 112 watt per day. | | | SOLAR REFRIGERATOR: | | Solar Refrigerator is a concept developed by this Division. At present such solar energy is converted into electrical energy through solar photo voltaic cells and electric energy is stored in the batteries. DC power of the battery is converted into 230 AC through APC make inverter which enables to operate the compressor of the refrigerator. Due to use of Solar + Electric refrigerator, daily consumption is upto 2.2 units per day contributing to a saving of 1 unit per day. | | | EMERGENCY LIGHTING : | | Emergency lighting from Solar power back of TATA BP model is 160 watts, battery 110 AH, 24 volts charge controller 24 volts, 10 Amp inverter 800 VA.The power drawn here also from the Solar itself through Solar photo voltaic system and fed to emergency light of kitchen, dinning hall, corridor, lavatories etc.Whenever power fails, the power pack becomes effective to feed on this emergency system. | | | 1. | An indepth study of functioning of centralized AC plants was done with respect to energy consumption, cost effectiveness vis-à-vis its cooling effect. It was found that as compared to the cooling effect, energy consumption is much more. In this back ground, it was decided to replace these centralized AC plants with 8 Nos of stand alone AC units in Control Officer and Railway Hospital, Solapur. After installation of these stand alone 5 star rated energy efficient split AC units there is a saving of 170 units per day as under: | Old centralized AC unit daily consumption | Stand alone split AC daily consumption | Stand alone 5 star rated split AC - | | Daily units saved | Daily amount saved | Monthly units saved | Monthly amount Saved | Yearly units saved | Yearly amount saved | | 230 units | 60 units | 170 units | Rs.1215/- | 5100 units | Rs.36,465/- | 61200 units | Rs.4,37,580/- | Total cost of 8 split AC units of 1 ton capacity (procured through DMM/SUR and installation work done departmentally) is Rs. 1,80,000/- (Rs.22,500/- each). Rate of return (ROR) is 150 days (5 months). 1.5 ton window type AC (old and inefficient) have been replaced by 1.5 Ton, split type 5 star rated, energy efficient AC units at Crew Lobby, Daund, thereby saving of 20 units daily and 600 units in a month. In monetary terms there is a saving ofRs. 4,290/- per month and yearly saving of Rs.51,480/- will be achieved. | Old Window type AC | Stand alone split AC daily consumption | Stand alone 5 star rated split AC - | | Daily units saved | Daily amount saved | Monthly units saved | Monthly amount saved | Yearly units saved | Yearly amount saved | | 96 units | 76 units | 20 units | Rs.143/- | 600 units | Rs.4,290/- | 7200 units | Rs 51,480/- | Total cost of 2 split AC units of 1.5 ton capacity (procured through DMM/SUR and installation work done departmentally) is Rs. 62,474/- (Rs.31,237/- each). Rate of return (ROR) is 437 days (15 months). | | 2. | Solarisation of Running room/ SUR, consisting of borosillicate type solar water heater with hybrid geyser system, solar home light, solar refrigerator, solar foot lights, solar stud lights, solar street lights, solar glow sign board and solar emergency light has been completed. This has resulted in power saving of approximately 70 units per day. | Previous daily consumption of RR. | Daily consumption after solarisation | After solarisation | | Daily units saved | Daily amount saved | Monthly units saved | Monthly amount Saved | Yearly units saved | Yearly amount saved | | 200 units | 130 units | 70 units | Rs.500/- | 2100 units | Rs.15,015/- | 25200 units | Rs.1,80,180/- | (All these items were procured through DMM/SUR and installation work done departmentally) Total cost of solarisation is Rs. 2,63,340/- as under: | Sr. No. | Item description | Quantity | Rate | Total Amount | | 1. | Solarl Street light | 2 | Rs.25,170/- | Rs.50,340/- | | 2. | Solar power pack | 1 | Rs.72,000/- | Rs.72,000/- | | 3. | Solar home light/foot light | 4 | Rs.13,000/- | Rs.52,000/- | | 4. | Solar refrigerator | 1 | Rs.89,000/- | Rs.89,000/- | | | | | Total | Rs.2,63,340/- | Rate of return (ROR) is 527 days (17 months). | | 3. | Water supply to Gangapur road railway station is provided through Bore well erected at about One Km from Railway Station area. A submersible pump is provided to this bore which was hitherto operated by Station staff.Lot of difficulties were experienced in operating this pump as staff had to be deputed for switching OFF/ON whenever water was to be pumped.Since the pump is situated far away from the station, many a times water use to over flow.During power failures staff had to repeatedly shuttle from bore well area to station leading to wastage of man power, wastage of electricity as well as water due to over flow. To overcome the above problems, an innovative idea of controlling operation of pump through KHYATEE MOBILE STARTER/AUTO SWITCH from SM’s office was explored and found successful. Now operation of pump is done from SM’s office through mobile from 16.01.2011.This has not only saved man power utilization by 2 hours daily but also eliminated wastage of power as well as water.Salient features of automation of this submersible pump is as under: 1)Operated on Micro Controller based software technology. 2)Inbuilt universal mobile charger. 3)Pass word protection 4)User friendly operation, every number of mobile has specific operation/feature which works on IVRC. 5)Has inbuilt sensor for protection from phase failure, reverse phase failure, voltage fluctuation, ‘ON’ delay timer etc. | 11ELECTRICAL GENERAL SERVICES DETAILS OF SOLAPUR DIVISION GIVEN IN INDIAN RAILWAY MAGAZINE FOR JANUARY 2011 VOL. 57 No. 10 Solapur Division is a non electrified traction Division of Central Railway. Division is facing the daunting task of ensuring reliable power supply to Stations, LC Gates, Signal equipments etc under the shadow of extensive power cuts. Almost entire stretch of Solapur Division is reeling under the power cuts ranging from 06 to 15 hrs a day.The Electrical Branch of the Division has to explore all means to ensure reliable power supply like availing dedicated express feeder/ Industrial/ Urban Feeder supply from the Electricity Boards. With all these constraints, services like primary and secondary electrical maintenance of all the train lighting and air conditioningcoaches, electrification of LC gates, signaling equipments, illumination of circulating area, Goods sheds, stations, passenger amenities etc. are being maintained by providing high masts, installing DG sets,UPS to PRS and UTS locations.
