Solapur is one of the division of Central Railway situated on Mumbai – Chennai route having 955.42 route kilometers including 137.19 Kms under gauge conversion.The jurisdiction is from Daund to Yeola, Daund to Wadi, Kurduwadi to Latur Road and Kurduwadi to Miraj.Itis catering the travel needs of passengers from 7 districts of Maharashtra viz. Nasik, Ahmednagar, Pune, Solapur, Sangli, Latur, Usmanabad & One district of Karnataka i.e. Gulbarga through 102 Railway stations which includes 5 A, 3 B & 8 D category station.
The region is well known for Holy places like Lord Vithhal Temple Pandharpur also known as “Dakshin Kashi”, Shrine of Saibaba at Shirdi, Sharan Basweshwar Temple and Khwaja Banda Nawaz Dargah at Gulbarga.Solapur is convenient Rail Head to visit the ancient temple of Tulja Bhavani, Tuljapur at a distance of 45 Kms. and Bird Sanctuary popular for Great Indian Bustard the rarest species at “Nannaj” at a distance of 24 Kms.It is also known as “Sugar belt” in the Western Maharashtra served by 50 sugar mills.

TICKETING SYSTEM
Unreserved Ticketing System is provided at 50 locations, UTS-cum-PRS at 18 locations and Computerized Passenger Reservation System at 12 locations.Jansadharan Ticket Booking Seva is available at 4 locations at Daund-2, Latur-1 & Gulbarga-1.Now the same is being extended at additional 40 locations.Two Rail Travel Service Agents are appointed each at Solapur and Gulbarga.Separate reservation counters are also provided in the defense area of Ahmednagar, in the Khwaja Banda Nawaz Dargah complex at Gulbarga and in Saibaba temple at Shirdi.
CARE OF RAIL USERS :
The minimum essential / desirable amenities are provided at the stations falling under the category.Under “Touch & Feel” mission Booking office, Retiring room, Waiting room, Concourse,Circulating area are renovated with improved illumination, modern furniture, curtains/bed linen, matching to adopt special colour schemes.Special type of stainless steel 3 seater benches are provided in the waiting rooms and Waiting Halls.Upper Class Waiting Room converted into AC and provided with LED TV at Solapur which is well appreciated by the users.

The circulating area at Gulbarga, Solapur, Ahmednagar railway stations is well tailored for obstruction free movements of 2 wheelers, 4 wheelers, auto rickshaw etc. by providing separate lanes, separate parking zones.Boards indicating “Drop & Go”, “No Parking”, “Govt. Vehicles” etc. are provided to avoid congestion.Prepaid booth facility is provided at Solapur and at Gulbarga it is being provided shortly.

Well equipped separate Enquiry counters are functioning at Ahmednagar, Daund, Solapur, Gulbarga.PC based announcement system is provided at 13 stations.POET are provided at 10 stations.Integrated Coach guidance system is provided at Gulbarga, Solapur and Sainagar Shirdi stations.Train indicator boards are provided at 7 stations and proposed at 5 more stations.Coach guidance system is available at 8 stations and Token system is introduced at 3 important PRS locations viz. Gulbarga, Solapur & Ahmednagar.
Composite aluminum panel boards with computerized screen printing indicating information on Passenger Amenities of station, name and phone no. of ADRM/Director Public Grievances, Refund Rules, Cloak Room charges, Retiring Room charges, Portage charges etc. are displayed at A,B,D & some E category stations
Standardize signages are provided at all A,B & some of the D category stations including circulating area for the guidance of rail users.

OTHER ACTIVITIES :
Maintenance of cleanliness and sanitation at Railway station including public interface offices, platforms, track/circulating area is maintained by outsourcing the activities partially at important stations like Solapur, Daund, Kopargaon.Adequate Safaiwalla staff is deployed at other stations for maintaining cleanliness and sanitation.SMs are provided with Cash imprest to carry out this activity wherever neither contracts are awarded nor staff is posted. For better maintenance of Urinals/Toilets at stations Pay and Use contracts are awarded at 13 stations.Pay and Use Toilets in the circulating area are also provided at Gulbarga and Ahmednagar. Cleaning of Waiting room
Rag picking contracts are awarded at 4 stations for removing visible garbage from track and circulating area.
Two wheeler/four wheeler parking facilities are provided at Wadi, Shahabad, Gulbarga, Solapur, Kurduwadi, Daund, Ahmednagar, Belapur stations.Premier parking facility is also being provided at Solapur.
The work of Multi FunctionalComplex is under progress at Sainagar Shirdi Railway station a convenient Rail Head for the devotees visiting the Holy place of Shri Saibaba Shrine.
For potable drinking water and better catering services to passengers, Inspection of Tea stall, refreshment room at station and pantry car by trains are carried out frequently by Commercial Officers to check the quantity, quality, use of standard approved raw material.Samples are also collected by Medical department to check the quality and adulteration if any.
